Turó d'en Mota: The Ultimate Expression of a Unique Vineyard in the Penedès

Buying Turó d’en Mota means discovering one of the finest long-aged sparkling wines from the Corpinnat region and one of the purest expressions of the Xarel·lo grape. Crafted exclusively from a single vineyard planted in 1940, this Corpinnat is born in the heart of the Penedès, where deeply calcareous soils provide tension, elegance and an extraordinary capacity for ageing.

Production is extremely limited, and every bottle reflects the unique identity of this historic vineyard. The old vines, cultivated with profound respect for the landscape and the passage of time, deliver a pure and precise expression of their origin. More than a decade of ageing in the silence of Recaredo’s cellars adds remarkable complexity, depth and harmony.

Turó d’en Mota is far more than a long-aged sparkling wine; it is the liquid history of an exceptional vineyard. An iconic Corpinnat that, vintage after vintage, conveys the memory of the land, the character of Xarel·lo and the truest essence of the Penedès.

An Old Xarel·lo Vineyard Planted in 1940

This iconic sparkling wine originates from a small bush-trained vineyard located on the slopes of Turó de la Mota. Its roots reach deep into soils rich in calcium carbonate nodules, giving the wine its distinctive tension, finesse and saline character—the unmistakable signature of this exceptional terroir.

More Than 150 Months of Ageing in the Silence of the Cellars

One of the most extraordinary features of Turó d’en Mota is its exceptional bottle ageing, which extends beyond 150 months under a natural cork closure. This prolonged maturation in Recaredo’s underground cellars allows Xarel·lo to develop remarkable complexity while preserving its freshness, tension and expressive character.

Over the years, the bubbles become exceptionally fine and integrate seamlessly into the wine, creating a silky texture and remarkable depth on the palate. Extended ageing also encourages the development of delicate tertiary aromas, where notes of dried fruit, spices, fine bakery pastries and mineral nuances intertwine, reflecting the vineyard’s calcareous origin.

More than simply a winemaking technique, these 150-plus months of ageing embody a philosophy built on respect for time. It is a patient process that transforms every bottle of Turó d’en Mota into one of Corpinnat’s finest age-worthy sparkling wines, capable of captivating both in its youth and after decades of evolution.

Frequently Asked Questions About Recaredo’s Iconic Turó d’en Mota

Why Did Turó d’en Mota Revolutionise Sparkling Wines in the Region?

Turó d’en Mota marked a turning point in the history of sparkling wines from the Penedès. It was the first sparkling wine made exclusively from Xarel·lo grown in a single vineyard—a pioneering approach that challenged the traditional practice of blending grape varieties and vineyard sites. It also introduced a groundbreaking vision: proving that a single vineyard could express its own identity and produce a world-class age-worthy wine.

Its innovative character was further demonstrated through an exceptionally long ageing period of more than 150 months, something unprecedented for a sparkling wine made solely from Xarel·lo. This decision revealed the extraordinary ability of the variety to evolve with elegance, complexity and depth over time.

With Turó d’en Mota, Recaredo introduced the concepts of terroir and single-vineyard expression to a category that had historically focused on blending. The result was a wine that helped place the Penedès among the world’s great sparkling wine regions, demonstrating that Xarel·lo, when sourced from an exceptional vineyard and given extended ageing, can achieve levels of longevity, precision and complexity comparable to the world’s finest sparkling wines.

What Is the Annual Production of This Collector’s Wine?

As it comes from a single, very small vineyard, production is extremely limited and varies according to the character of each vintage. Every bottle is individually numbered before release.

What Is the Recommended Serving Ritual for Turó d’en Mota?

To fully appreciate its complexity, we recommend opening the bottle around ten minutes before serving and using generously sized white wine glasses rather than traditional flute glasses. The ideal serving temperature is between 10°C and 12°C (50°F–54°F). Serving it too cold will mute the subtle, layered nuances that this wine has taken more than a decade to develop.
